The Alpine bladder fern ( Cystopteris alpina ) is a representative of the eyelash fern family (Woodsiaceae) that occurs in Central Europe in the Alps . According to Euro + Med it is classified as a subspecies Cystopteris fragilis subsp. alpina (Lam.) Hartm. of Cystopteris fragilis .

features

The alpine bladder fern reaches heights of 5 to 20, rarely 40 cm. It has a short rhizome . The fronds are therefore rosettes. They are 10 to 40 cm long, delicate, translucent and mostly double-pinnate. The leaf blade has an elongated-lanceolate shape and is usually longer than the petiole . The lowest pair of plumage is shorter than the following. The leaflets have a wedge-shaped base and are narrow-elongated. The tip is edged to cut. The last veins run into the pinnate bays. The spores ripen in July and August and are regularly prickly.

In habit, the species is similar to the slashed striped fern ( Asplenium fissum ).

The number of chromosomes is 6n = 252, so the species is hexaploid .

distribution

The Alpine bladder fern has its main distribution area in the Alps, but is also found in the Bavarian Forest . In Austria it is only missing in Vienna and Burgenland. In Germany it occurs only in Bavaria. It grows in damp rock crevices and on scree. It loves chalk and occurs in the subalpine to alpine altitude range and rises up to 2400 m. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises from 1,300 meters at the Point-Alpe in Bärgündele in Bavaria to 2,400 meters above sea level on the Widderstein in Vorarlberg.

It is an association character species of the Heliospermo-Cystopteridetum alpinae from the association Cystopteridion fragilis and also occurs in societies of the association Thlaspeion rotundifolii.
