Jesse More Greenman (born December 27, 1867 in North East , Pennsylvania , † January 20, 1951 in St. Louis , Missouri) was an American botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Greenm. ".

Life

Greenman studied at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard . In 1901 he received his doctorate in Berlin . He then worked as assistant curator of the botany department at the Natural History Museum in Chicago and as assistant professor of botany at the University of Chicago . In 1913 he became curator of the herbarium of the Missouri Botanical Gardens and was appointed professor of botany at Washington University . He held both positions until 1948.

The genera of the sunflower family (Asteraceae) Greenmania Hieron are named after him . , Greenmaniella W.M. Sharp and Jessea H.Rob. & Cuatrec.
