The Alps "Enzian" (formerly Grotto Blitz ) is a driven roller coaster ( powered coaster ) type Blauer Enzian the manufacturer Mack Rides in Europa-Park in Rust . It is part of the “Austria” theme, opened in 1984 and was the first roller coaster in Europapark.

Technical specifications

The Alpenexpress "Enzian" has a train that can accommodate 38 people with ten cars (four people per car, two people per row, the first car is designed as a locomotive and only holds two people). There is an electric motor in each carriage, which draws three-phase current from contact rails located between the rails by means of sliding contacts. The electric motors drive wheels that run on a track next to the contact rails and thus accelerate or brake the train. The length is around 250 meters and the speed around 45 km / h. It has a capacity of 1050 people per hour and a journey time of 1:40 minutes.

Trip description

At the beginning there is a helix, then it goes through the "magic world of diamonds", an artificial cave with a fairytale theme of mines, through which the Tyrolean wild water ride goes, among other things . With a steep curve in which you drive past a suddenly appearing ball of fire, it goes back out into the daylight. Usually two laps are driven so that one also drives through the station. Depending on the number of visitors, three laps are also driven.

VR ride

With the help of an optionally available VR headset, it is possible to experience a virtual reality ride adventure. Here you drive through futuristic worlds with Ed Euromaus and his friends, while at the same time the real roller coaster ride, i.e. the wind, centrifugal forces and curves remain noticeable. Since the virtual journey - i.e. acceleration, curves, uphill and downhill runs - is precisely tailored to the actual journey, the impression of a flight through an artificial fantasy world is created. The Alpenexpress VR-Ride is the world's first roller coaster combined with VR technology and was developed by MackMedia.
