Alphonsus Augustus Sowada

Alphonsus Augustus Sowada OSC (born June 23, 1933 in Avon , Minnesota , USA ; † January 11, 2014 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Agats .

Life

Alphonsus Augustus Sowada joined the religious community of the Order of the Holy Cross and was ordained a priest on May 31, 1958 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 29, 1969 first Bishop of Agats . The Apostolic Nuncio in Indonesia , Joseph Mees , donated him episcopal ordination on November 23 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Herman Tillemans MSC , Archbishop of Merauke , and Rudolf Joseph Manfred Staverman OFM , Bishop of Djajapura .

On May 9, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation for health reasons.
