Alt-Oberbolheim was part of the municipality of Nörvenich in the Düren district .

The place stood directly under the runway of the Nörvenich air base on the federal road 477 , the old Roman road from Neuss to Zülpich . Oberbolheim had a stop on the Benzelrath – Nörvenich railway line .

It is probably an early Franconian settlement.

With a protest march of over 700 people with black flags through the then federal capital Bonn , the Oberbolheimer tried to prevent the military air base , but it did not succeed. Flight operations began on March 8, 1955.

In addition to the noise of the jet fighters , there was also the fear of crashes . On January 25, 1962, a starfighter crashed into the agricultural drying facility in the village. The pilot tried to pull the jet over the place, but it failed. Captain Lutz Tyrkofski did not survive the crash. His flight student was able to save himself with the ejection seat .

Under the direction of the then mayor Theo Berger, who later became an honorary citizen and after whom a street in the new Oberbolheim was named, the new Oberbolheim was built in an open field southeast of the old town . Alt-Oberbolheim was demolished and rebuilt in the late 1960s / early 1970s.

The last mass in the Antonius Chapel was on January 17, 1970. As a replacement, the Antoniushaus was built in the middle of the new Oberbolheim as a meeting place with a sacred space .

Today only the chapel , which is no longer consecrated, indicates the old Oberbolheim . Old residents from Oberbolheim can still be buried in the surrounding churchyard . To the south of the Antonius Chapel there is an old millstone as a reminder of the Oberbolheimer mill .

The artist Ulrich Rückriem , who lived in Nörvenich Castle at the time, set up a granite block that was divided into four, which depicts the tearing up of the village community by the demolition of the place, near the Mühlstein .

The rotating radio beacon in front of the Nörvenich air base

In September / October 2016 a new rotary radio beacon was built in the old location (today the air base) , which had to be dismantled near the east head.
