Old weights and measures (Poland)
A ukase dated January 20, 1848 (February 11) stipulated that in Poland, at that time a province of Russia, no other measures than the Russian measures and weights were allowed. They were in effect from April 19, 1849 (May 1).
Length measurements
At any time during the Kingdom of Poland , which existed between 1000 and 1795, i.e. has nothing to do with the ukase of 1848, the following applied:
- 1 sążeń ( fathoms ) = 6 stóp
- 1 Łokieć ( cubit ) = 13 ⅓ Ławek
- 1 stopa ( foot ) = 10 Ławek = 18 cali = 1 pręcik
- 1 Sznur ( rope ) = 10 Prętów = 100 Pręcików = 1000 Ławek = 44.665 m
- 1 pręt ( rod ) = 100 Ławek = 4.466 m
- 1 Ławka = 43 1/5 millimeter = 1 4/5 cal
An edict was issued for the Republic of Krakow on December 7, 1836, at the time not part of Poland, to introduce the new dimensions. So it was:
- 1 Cal = 0.0248 m
- 1 Stopa = 12 Cali = 0.298 m
- 1 Łokieć = 2 Stóp = 0.596 m
- 1 Sążeń = 3 Łokcie = 1,788 m
Before the introduction of this Krakow system, which was adapted to the newer French system of measurement, the following measurements were used. The contradiction to the aforementioned dimensions is surprising, but nevertheless;
- 1 stop = 0.3564 metr = 12 cal
- 1 Łokieć = 0.61697 metr
