The Altenberg is a 856 m high mountain in Alsace . It is located in the Vosges about 12 km northwest of Sélestat mainly in the area of the municipality of Neubois , but also extends to the districts of Breitenau , Dieffenbach-au-Val , Fouchy , La Vancelle , Lièpvre and Rombach-le-Franc . At the highest point of the extensive ridge, at the Rocher du Coucou rock formation (cuckoo rock ) , there is a television tower . The ruins of the Frankenburg are enthroned on the 703 m high Schlossberg to the east .
The Altenberg near Neubois should not be confused with the 1197 m high Altenberg near Wildenstein in the Upper Vosges .
