history

The company was founded in 1823 as the first screw factory in Germany. From 1829 the company exported to other countries. In 1856, the company was one of the first German companies to set up a company health insurance fund to provide social security for its employees.

In 1866, the fully automatic wood screw machine began industrial production and thus mass production. The necessary packing and counting machines were also developed in-house after an independent energy supply had been installed for the factory using its own steam engine as early as 1857. In 1867, the non-cutting process of thread rolling for metric threads was used for the first time .

From 1912 the production of nuts and bolts began in the Gevelsberg branch . With the introduction of the universal screw Spax in 1967, the company revolutionized the fastener market.

In 1973 the window construction screw FEX was developed for the window construction industry.

In 2005 and 2006, two companies in France - ADL (Paris) and Société des Forges de Froncles (Haute-Marne) - were acquired. In 2010 the majority shares in SABEU Kunststoffwerke in Northeim were taken over.

With the joint formation of the International Coldforming Alliance with Rockford Products Corporation (USA), Power Steel & Electro-Plating (Malaysia) and Osaka Rashi Manufacturing Company Ltd. from Japan, the company became a multinational in 1999 .
