The Altensteintal ( Italian Val Sasso Vecchio ) is a 4 km long side valley in the Sesto Dolomites in the easternmost part of South Tyrol in Italy, branching off to the west from the Fischlein Valley . It is part of the Drei Zinnen nature park .

location

It begins a few hundred meters after the Talschlusshütte in the Fischlein Valley in front of the Einserkofel , where it branches off from the valley in a westerly direction. The continuation of the Fischleintal is called Bacherntal from the crossing . The Altensteiner Bach runs parallel to the valley, which at the end of the valley is fed by a waterfall from the Böden lakes below the Dreizinnenhütte and flows into the Fischleinbach . The valley ends with the waterfall at the Bodenalpe, and the plateau around the Three Peaks joins it.

The Altensteintal was framed after the Altenstein summit and on the left by the Einserkofel and on the right by the Dreischusterspitze . For its scenic beauty it is a worthy continuation of the Fischleintal ; In addition to the three growth zones of larch growth , Swiss stone pine and pine growth or high mountains , it offers the romantic accompaniment of the Altensteiner brook that shoots from the heights. The name is based on the mythical interpretation that the Altenstein mountain is the oldest in the country and contains the ancients, namely the deceased ancestors. At the end of the valley, the mountains around the Paternkofel , the Dreischusterspitze and, at the very end, the Drei Zinnen take over the accompaniment.

description

Entry into the Altensteiner Tal after the crossing

The Altensteiner Tal is preferably used by visitors to the Drei Zinnen , who do not mind an ascent of 1,000 meters in about 3 hours and want to avoid the rush of tourists via the Lavaredo hut . In spite of the difficulty of the ascent, the trails do not pose any exposure or danger to hikers with the right equipment and appropriate behavior.

The famous Drei-Zinnen-Lauf from Sexten to the Dreizinnenhütte does not touch the Altensteiner Tal.
