Old Town Hall (Bozen)
The old town hall of the city of Bolzano is located under the arbors in house number 30. Today it houses the Bolzano city archives . From 1455 until the move to the new town hall in 1907, it was the seat of the Bolzano city administration . It has been a listed building since 1977 .
On January 24th, 1455, Jakob Kürschner from Brixen sold the house that had burned down shortly before - after its previous owners, the Lords of Villanders , at that time still called von Vilanders haws - to the city of Bozen, which then adapted it as the town hall . The building complex extends from Laubengasse to Dr.-Streiter-Gasse and arches over a much-used passage, an atrium and a loggia . The buildings were rebuilt at the beginning of the 16th century and underwent further refinements in the 17th century. In the rear part of the building towards Dr.-Streiter-Gasse , rebuilt in 1597/98 by the Lombard builder Antonio Carlone , there is also the old council chamber with wall paintings by Georg Müller from Bamberg (1597) and the historic meeting room of the Tyrolean Parliament whose elaborately crafted wooden ceiling is decorated with the Tyrolean eagle with the honorary wreath. In the part of the building under the arcades, which was partially destroyed by air raids in World War II , the original street-side vaults with late Gothic frescoes by Conrad Waider from Straubing have been preserved.
