history

Very little is known about the history of Altmannsdorf. The village probably existed in the shadow of Zabelstein Castle during the Middle Ages . After the end of the Old Kingdom in the 19th century, Altmannsdorf became an independent municipality in the Kingdom of Bavaria . In the 20th century the village was part of the Gerolzhofen district . Today it is a district of Michelau in the Steigerwald in the district of Schweinfurt.

Attractions

The center of the village is the small Catholic chapel . It was built in 1726 and provided with a square bell tower above the choir . Instead of an altar, a figure of Anna herself was erected. It comes from the early 16th century. The figure was probably created by a peasant workshop. This is indicated by the almost archaic, primitive designs of the children on Anna's arm.

In addition, some wayside shrines and small memorials have been preserved in Altmannsdorf . They refer to the popular piety of the residents. The oldest of these sticks is a torture from 1673. In the top there is a relief of the crucifixion of Christ , on the reverse is Christ as the judge of the world . The pedestrian gates in the village are typical. They were built from sandstone in the 18th century.
