Altstadt I is a district and the historical core of the independent , North Rhine-Westphalian city of Mülheim an der Ruhr .

The smallest in terms of area, but also the most densely populated district of Mülheim, is located on the historic Westphalian Hellweg in the Rechtsruhr-Süd district. It borders on Altstadt II , Heißen , Menden-Holthausen and, on the other side of the Ruhr , on Saarn and Broich .
