Altus is a city in Jackson County, Oklahoma, in the United States . Altus has 19,813 inhabitants (2010) and is the capital of Jackson County.
Altus is home to the United States Air Force's Altus Air Force Base , home of the 97th Air Mobility Wing (97 AMW) and the training base for the McDonnell Douglas C-17 and Boeing KC-135 crews . It is also the location of Western Oklahoma State College and the Southwest Technology Center .
