Alun Wyn Jones (born September 19, 1985 in Swansea ) is a Welsh rugby union player . He plays as a second-row striker for the Welsh national team and the Ospreys .

Jones was part of the U21 squad that won the 2005 Grand Slam for this age group. He was also the best newcomer to the Welsh Premier Division . He then switched to Osprey's regional selection. In its first season it was used 15 times. His achievements led to his national team debut against Argentina in 2006 .

At the Six Nations 2007 he was part of the squad in all games. He was therefore also nominated for the 2007 World Cup , where he was used in four out of five games. He managed two attempts , one against Canada and one against Japan .

At the Six Nations 2008 Jones managed to win the Grand Slam with the Welsh national team . He was able to contribute to this success in three games, the other two games he missed due to an injury. National coach Warren Gatland also nominated him for the Six Nations 2009 , where he was in the starting line-up in all games and was captain of the team for the first time against Italy . On April 21st of that year he was nominated by Ian McGeechan for the tour of the British and Irish Lions to South Africa . He was used in all three games.

His sporting role models are Lance Armstrong , Muhammad Ali and Martin Johnson .
