The Amadeo - Theater and Music Society began its activity in the summer of 2000 in the atrium of the Croatian Museum of Natural History in the upper town of Zagreb , Croatia . Between 1797 and 1834, the same building was the site of the establishment of the first Croatian public theater called Amadeo's Theater , named after its founder, the Hungarian Count Anton Amade de Varkony , the great prefect of Zagreb. Between 2006 and 2009 the company was placed in the Museum of Arts and Crafts , Zagreb. In summer 2010 it moved back to the atrium of the Croatian National History Museum.

The Amadeo Theater and Music Society is the only society with a diverse summer scene in Zagreb, with its program that runs from July to September . In total during the summer season there are about 50 plays , concerts and film screenings with the participation of over two hundred well-known Croatian and foreign artists.

The program of the Amadeo Theater and Music Society consists of a musical and a theatrical part. In the musical part, Amadeo organizes classical music concerts , with a great emphasis on the participation of young musicians, jazz , world music and pop . In the theatrical part there are premieres and reruns of chamber plays , ballet , monodrama and stand-up comedy . In addition to the main program, Amadeo also has a theater program for preschool and elementary school children called "Little Amadeo", and an alternative stage dedicated to unconventional and amateur art forms, the "Amadeoff Festival".

Other programs

In the seasons from 2002 to 2005, 12 works by contemporary Croatian composers were performed.

In the 2001 and 2007 seasons, Amadeo screened a number of films from the Motovun Film Festival .

From the 2006 season until today, Amadeo has arranged performances of works by Croatian composers, presented by chamber bands and orchestras.

From the 2007 season until today, Amadeo has cooperated with the Zagreb Jewish Community as part of the Israeli Week program .

During the 2010 season, Amadeo screened a number of films from the Pula Film Festival .

Projects

Located on the premises of the Croatian National Historical Museum, the Amadeo Theater and Music Society made a number of contributions to its revival.

In 2001, on the facade of the Croatian National Historical Museum in Zagreb, the Amadeo Theater and Music Society unveiled a monument with its historical bilingual name from the beginning of the 19th century: "Kazaliscna Vulicza - Theater Alley".

In 2003 the Amadeo Theater and Music Society renovated the abandoned atrium of the Croatian National History Museum, led by the idea of ​​the museum advisor Jakov Radovcic. The "Kamenopisna karta Hrvatske" (a map of Croatia made of stone slabs) dominates the newly renovated atrium. The 2500 stone slabs that make up the map were collected "in situ" from all over Croatia, and the atrium itself is covered in characteristic Croatian stone. A unique geological pillar was placed in the courtyard, the floor and side lighting was created by the idea of ​​maestro Ivo Pogorelic .

The founders of the Amadeo Theater and Music Society are: Nenad Jandric, Rada Vnuk, Zvonimir Zoricic, Bozidar Oreskovic (1942-2010), Neven Franges and August Faulend Heferer.
