Amalie Schütz (born January 22, 1803 in Vienna ; † September 21, 1852 in Baden near Vienna ; pseudonym: Amalie Schütz-Oldosi ) was an Austrian opera singer (soprano).

Life

She was the daughter of the Viennese map painter Joseph Holdhaus . She received her training in Vienna with Antonio Salieri and Giuseppe Tomaselli ; she made her debut in 1821 at the Theater an der Wien , where she distinguished herself as a Rossini singer (soprano, mezzo-soprano). In 1820 she married the singer Joseph Schütz , who was also engaged at this theater.

From 1822 to 1823 she sang at the Vienna Court Opera , taking over the title role in Conradin Kreutzer's Cordelia from Schröder-Devrient , which she sang at the Deutsches Theater in Amsterdam after her international career began . In 1825 the Schütz appeared in Paris, where she took on the stage name Schütz-Oldosi, soon rose to a first-class singer and was able to assert herself brilliantly alongside singing greats such as Giuditta Pasta and Joséphine Fodor-Mainvielle . In 1828 she sang Ellen in Rossini's La donna del lago at Théâtre-Italy, and in 1828 the same role at King's Theater London.

She experienced the high point of her career in Italy. In 1830 she made her debut at La Scala in Milan as Giulietta in Vincenzo Bellini's I Capuleti ei Montecchi . As a singer of Rossini's , Bellini's and Donizetti's operatic roles, Schütz achieved brilliant successes at numerous Italian opera houses (Naples, Florence, Bologna, Lucca, Rome).

In 1835 she came to Vienna as part of the Italian Opera Stage and appeared at the Court Opera in Bellini's La sonnambula and Donizetti's Anna Bolena . In 1836 she sang the role of Serafina in the world premiere of Donizetti's Il campanello di notte in Naples .

In 1838 she retired from the stage and from then on only worked as a concert singer. Most recently she lived as a singing teacher in Vienna. Shortly before her death, she gave another guest appearance in London.

Amalie Schütz-Oldosi was one of Austria's luminaries in the field of the art of singing . she is buried in the St. Helena cemetery, Baden near Vienna .
