The Taluk Ambattur ( Tamil : அம்பத்தூர் வட்டம் ) is a Taluk (sub-district) of the Tiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city of Ambattur .
geography
The Taluk Ambattur is located in the southeast of the Tiruvallur district in the suburbs of the metropolis of Chennai (Madras). It borders the Taluk Poonamallee and Tiruvallur in the west, Ponneri in the north and Madhavaram in the northeast, the city district Chennai in the east and the Taluk Sriperumbudur of the district Kanchipuram in the south.
The Taluk Ambattur is congruent with the Villivakkam block. Its area is 221 square kilometers.

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Ambattur has 924,474 inhabitants. This makes it the Taluk with the highest population in the Tiruvallur district. Due to its proximity to the metropolis of Chennai, the Taluk Ambattur is highly urbanized and densely populated: 94.1 percent of the population is classified as urban, the population density is 4,183 inhabitants per square kilometer.
history
Due to the expansion of Chennai, the formerly rural area of Taluks Ambattur has experienced considerable growth. In 2009 the Taluk Madhavaram was split off from the Taluk Ambattur. As a result of the city expansion of Chennais in 2011, part of the Taluk including the main town, Ambattur, was incorporated into the Chennais urban area.
