The Taluk Pallipattu ( Tamil : பள்ளிப்பட்டு வட்டம் ) is a Taluk (sub-district) of the Tiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The main town is the eponymous city Pallipattu .

geography

The Taluk Pallipattu is located in the west of the Tiruvallur district in northern Tamil Nadu. It borders on the Taluk Tiruttani (Tiruvallur District) in the east, the Taluks Arakkonam in the southeast, Wallajah in the south and Katpadi in the southwest (all Vellore district ) and the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh in the west and north .

The Taluk Pallipattu is congruent with the Pallipattu and RK Pet blocks. Its area is 343 square kilometers.

history

During the British colonial era , the Pallupattu area was part of the Chittoor district of the Madras presidency . After Indian independence, Pallipattu came in 1953 together with the Chittoor district to the newly founded state of Andhra (from 1956 Andhra Pradesh) from the Telugus-speaking northern part of the state of Madras . Because of its predominantly Tamil population, the Sub-Taluk Pallipattu, together with the Taluk Tiruttani, was added to the newly formed state of Madras (renamed Tamil Nadu in 1969) and incorporated into the Chengalpattu district as part of the Taluk Tiruttani . In 1981 the Sub-Taluk Pallipattu was raised to a full Taluk. In 1997 the Taluk came through the division of the Chengalpattu district into the newly established Tiruvallur district .

According to the 2011 census, the Taluk Pallipattu has 211,689 inhabitants. Of these, 70.7 percent are classified as rural and 29.3 percent as urban. The population density is 617 inhabitants per square kilometer.
