Ambrogio Bianchi OSBCam (born October 17, 1771 in Cremona , † March 3, 1856 in Rome ) was Abbot General of the Camaldolese and Cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He entered the Camaldolese order and later became a professor at the Seminary in Fabriano . In 1823 he was abbot of the Fonte Avellana monastery , in 1828 he became a general visitator and in 1833 general vicar of his order. In 1835 he was elected Abbot General of the Camaldolese.

Bianchi was in the consistory on April 6, 1835 by Pope Gregory XVI. elevated to cardinal in pectore , which was published in July 1839, at the same time as his appointment as cardinal priest of the titular church Santi Andrea e Gregorio al Monte Celio . He remained Abbot General of the Camaldolese. He was Prefect of the Congregation for Religious Discipline from July 31, 1840 until his death . He took part in the conclave of 1846 , which Pope Pius IX. chose.

Cardinal Ambrogio Bianchi died in Rome in 1856 and was buried in his titular church, Santi Andrea e Gregorio al Monte Celio .
