Ambrosius Leidinger OSB (civil Wolfgang Leidinger ; born February 15, 1958 in Schmelz ) is a German Benedictine and was administrator of the Neuburg Abbey near Heidelberg from 2018 to 2020 .

Life

Wolfgang Leidinger, who grew up in Schmelz in the Diocese of Trier , entered the Trier seminary in Trier after graduating in 1977 , where he studied philosophy and theology. After passing his intermediate diploma he was accepted as a postulant with the religious name Ambrosius in the Abbey of Maria Laach , where he stayed until the end of his novitiate . He then continued his studies at the universities of Munich, Trier and Paris. He was ordained a priest in 1985.

After his return he was employed in various areas. This included the work as ceremonial and sacristan as well as in youth pastoral care and course work.

In Maria Laach he also headed the monastery publishing house of the abbey for many years. There he was responsible for the Laacher Messbuch as publisher and editor-in-chief. He also developed the periodical Magnificat , which he also headed as editor-in-chief, and - after a falling out with the co-editor - the monthly Te Deum .

After he was caught in an armed theft in January 2007 and sentenced in January 2009 to a seven-month suspended sentence and a fine of € 300, he moved to Neuburg Abbey . There he completed a two-year training as an Enneagram teacher , although the Catholic Church classifies eneagrams as Gnostic and in 2018 transferred his Stabilitas loci to the Neuburg Abbey.

In the course of the impeachment proceedings of Abbot Winfried Schwab by the Abbot President of the Beuron Congregation Albert Schmidt , Leidinger was appointed administrator of the Neuburg Abbey . In the election of the new superior in 2020 he failed with two to seven votes to Father Benedict.
