Amely Goebel (full name Amely Maria Eva Goebel ; * July 8, 1903 in Strasbourg , † September 18, 1982 in Trier ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and economist. She earned lasting merit in Trier with her voluntary work in the “Catholic Welfare Association for Girls, Women and Children”.

Life

Amely Goebel was born in Strasbourg, Germany at that time. Her father, the ophthalmologist Carl Goebel, worked there as an assistant doctor and later opened an ophthalmologist's practice in Trier, her mother's hometown. She passed the Abitur in 1922 and then studied economics and philosophy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. She completed her studies in 1926 with a diploma. She began studying social sciences at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg. Afterwards she worked in her father's ophthalmological practice and at the same time started volunteering in the “Catholic Welfare Association for Girls, Women and Children” (since 1969 renamed Social Services for Catholic Women ) in Trier. In 1936 she was elected to its board of directors and in 1939 as first chairman. She held this office until her death in 1982.

During the National Socialist period, the work of the Catholic association was hindered, especially after the partial destruction of the association's own "Annastift", a refuge for " fallen girls ". After the Second World War, Amely Goebel campaigned for the continuation of the association's work and the reconstruction of the association's structures and also of houses in which those in need are accepted. In 1951 the “Maria Goretti Home” was built and in 1974 the “Annastift” was reopened. In Social Service of Catholic women she worked with the Central Council.

Politically, Amely Goebel was a board member of the CDU city association of Trier from 1952 to 1974. She was elected to the city council for several legislative terms. From 1957 to 1959 she was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate, replacing Mathilde Gantenberg .
