Mathilde Gantenberg

Mathilde Gantenberg (* 25. December 1889 in Bochum ; † 29. October 1975 in Trier ) was a German politician of the CDU .

Life and work

Mathilde Gantenberg, who was of the Roman Catholic faith, studied philology and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. From 1920 to 1927 she was a study assistant in Koblenz . After half a year as a teacher at the Stiftsgymnasium Xanten , she worked as a senior teacher in Bad Kreuznach from the end of 1927 . In 1933 she was dismissed for political reasons and initially hired herself as a farmer in the Eifel. In 1940 she became a bookseller in Trier.

After the Second World War, Ms. Gantenberg returned to school in 1945 as Head of Studies in Trier.

Political party

Mathilde Gantenberg was a member of the ZENTRUM from 1928 to 1933 . In 1945 she participated in the founding of the Christian Democratic Party , later the Rhineland-Palatinate regional association of the CDU, in Trier.

MPs

Gantenberg was a member of Trier's city council from 1946 to 1948. In 1946/47 she was a member of the Advisory State Assembly and thereafter until her resignation on October 1, 1957, a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament . Amely Goebel was the successor for the legislative period . She belonged to the German Bundestag from October 8, 1956, when she replaced the resigned MP Eduard Orth , until 1961.

Public offices

From 1948 to 1951 Mathilde Gantenberg was State Secretary in the Ministry for Education and Culture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate . This made her the first woman to hold the rank of State Secretary in Rhineland-Palatinate.
