history

The Stiftsgymnasium is one of the oldest schools in Germany because of its long history. The origin of the Stiftsgymnasium lies in the foundation of the Stiftsschule zu Xanten in the 9th century at the time of the Carolingians . In the late Middle Ages , the Latin school schola latina xantinis developed in Xanten , which was replaced by a rectorate school in 1821 . It was not until the middle of the 20th century, after numerous efforts, that the school finally became a Progymnasium and in 1961 finally a full grammar school and moved into a more modern building in Xanten. This was expanded in 1999 by a science wing.

European class

Since 2009 there has been bsw in the eleventh grade. Introductory phase of a European class. In the class are students from SSGX, but also exchange students who live with the German participants. The exchange students come from Europe, but a few exceptions also come from the rest of the world. With the exception of a few electives, the lessons are entirely in English.
