The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) is a performing arts college in New York City and Los Angeles , California.
The conservatory offers both the Bachelor of Fine Arts and two-year certificates in professional performance. Programs are offered in acting, musical theater, dance, and the performing arts.
The AMDA is an officially recognized university of the American National Association of Schools of Theater.

history

AMDA was founded in 1964 by Philipp Burton and other celebrities on the New York theater scene. Burton was one of the acting teachers at the academy and was Richard Burton's adoptive father , whom he also taught.

The AMDA trains actors in the categories of theater, musical, dance, film and television.

The New York City campus is on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. The main building is to the west of 61st Street, just past Lincoln Center .
The Los Angeles campus is located in the heart of Hollywood entertainment.
