American Nightmare is a hardcore band from Boston , Massachusetts , USA .
They formed in 1998 and later changed their band name to Give Up the Ghost . The group disbanded in 2006 and reunited under the name American Nightmare almost eleven years later, in 2017. In 2018 their comeback album was released, which was named after the band.
Band history
Give Up the Ghost was founded in 1998 by Tim Cossar, Wesley Eisold, Azy Relph and Jessey Van Diest under the name American Nightmare. In 1999 the band released a four-track demo recording , which led to the band being signed to Bridge Nine Records . The debut album was released under the name American Nightmare in 2000. After an extensive tour and changes in the line-up, the band released their second album, The Sun Isn't Getting Any Brighter , in 2001 .
The album Background Music , which was produced by Equal Vision Records , was released in 2001. In 2003 the band had to deal with a legal battle over their name. A Misfits - cover band from Philadelphia with the same name claimed the rights to this for themselves. As a result, the band initially replaced their name with his initials , AN. After the name was changed to American Nothing , but the band was faced with the threat of legal action again, they changed the name to Give Up the Ghost , which was originally theirs next album should be. This was released in 2003 under the name We're Down Til We're Underground on Equal Vision Records. The band experimented with longer songs that differed from the typical "hardcore handwriting" that they had used on previous albums.
In 2004, the band surprisingly broke up one day after they canceled their European tour. The band announced that health and personal reasons were responsible for the separation. The band members continued their careers on other projects. In 2007 the band made a name for itself again in the form of their songwriter Wes Eisold. There were allegations in the room that the band Fall Out Boy had illegally used texts by Eisold. After an out-of-court settlement, a legal dispute was averted.
