Lincoln Jefferson, a US Marine veteran , now works as a janitor. He tries to improve his relationship with his son after his divorce. One day the boy is killed during a routine police check, but the policeman who was guilty of shooting is found innocent without going to trial. Lincoln takes matters into his own hands. In a police station he takes hostages and organizes a mock trial in which the inmates act as a jury.

Directed by Nate Parker , who also wrote the script and starred in the role of ex-Marine Lincoln Jefferson. Other roles were filled with Omari Hardwick , Theo Rossi and Beau Knapp . The music for the film was composed by Henry Jackman , with whom Parker already worked for The Birth of a Nation .

The shooting took place in Los Angeles . Kay Madsen acted as cameraman . The Oscar nominated Geoffrey Kirkland was responsible for the equipment .

At the Venice International Film Festival , Parker presented the film on September 1, 2019 as part of the Sconfini section, where it celebrated its world premiere and was shown out of competition. Also in September 2019 it will be shown at the American Film Festival in Deauville .
