Geoffrey Kirkland

Geoffrey Kirkland (* 1939 in England ) is a British production designer .

Life

Kirkland began his career with the BBC , where he first worked as a production designer on the series Task Force Police in 1963 . He worked for the BBC until 1967 and was involved in the cult series Doctor Who during this time ; he worked on the 1967 adventure The Faceless Ones with Patrick Troughton as a Second Doctor .

His first feature film was Alan Parker's British-Italian co-production Bugsy Malone . This was followed by a long collaboration with Parker; between 1976 and 2003 he worked on a total of nine of his films, including Fame - The path to fame , Birdy and Mississippi Burning - The root of hatred .

1984 he worked for Philip Kaufman's film adaptation The Right Stuff along with Richard Lawrence , W. Stewart Campbell , Peter R. Romero , Jim Poynter and George R. Nelson for the Oscar in the category Best Art Direction nominated, the award went this year, however, to the film drama Fanny and Alexander . Between 1977 and 2007, Kirkland was nominated three times for the BAFTA Film Award , which he won twice: 1977 for Bugsy Malone and 2007 for Children of Men . He was also nominated three times for the Excellence in Production Design Award of the Art Directors Guild , but he could not win this award.
