Jim Poynter

James "Jim" Poynter (born October 13, 1943 in San Francisco , California ) is an American production designer .

Life

Poynter began his career on the film staff in 1981 as a set designer on the set of the comedy film Crazy Street Life with Alan Arkin in the lead role. His second film was Philip Kaufman's literary adaptation The Stuff The Heroes Are Made of , in which he worked as a set designer under the pseudonym Pat Pending . In 1984 he was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best production design together with Geoffrey Kirkland , W. Stewart Campbell , Peter R. Romero , Richard Lawrence and George R. Nelson , but the award went to the film drama Fanny and Alexander that year .

This would be his only nomination for a film award. He also worked as a production designer on a few feature films, including Cocoon II - The Return and Darling, Will You Hold the Ax? , but mostly worked as a master stage builder. He also worked as an art director for television ; 1991 in five episodes of the television series The Night Falcon and the television film Back to the Streets of San Francisco from the following year.
