Peter R. Romero

Peter R. Romero (born February 18, 1920 - † July 29, 2010 in Tarzana , California ) was a production designer and art director .

Life

Romero began his film and television career in 1974 as assistant to the art director on the set of the short-lived television series Apple's Way , at which point he was well over 50 years old. He then worked as art director on almost a dozen episodes of the successful family series The Waltons . In 1977 he assisted Jack T. Collis on John Boorman's horror film Exorcist II - The Heretic . In both this and the next feature film, Um Kopf und Kragen , he remained in the credits without naming his name. He received his first credit in 1979 for Rocky II . At Walter Hills Western Long Riders , Romero was responsible for the first time as art director for a feature film.

1984 he worked for Philip Kaufman's film adaptation The Right Stuff , along with Geoffrey Kirkland , W. Stewart Campbell , Richard Lawrence , Jim Poynter and George R. Nelson for the Oscar in the category Best Art Direction nominated, the award went this Year, however, to the film drama Fanny and Alexander . The nomination was followed by a lengthy absence from the film business, he only returned in the early 1990s and worked as a production designer on For the Boys - Days of Fame, Days of Love and Speed . This was his last film, in his mid-sixties he finally retired from the film business. He died in California at the age of ninety.
