Amethi ( Hindi : अमेठी Ameṭhī [ ʌˈmeːʈʰi ]) is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh with around 13,849 inhabitants (2011 census). It is located about 100 kilometers north of the Prayagraj and 130 kilometers southeast of Lucknow in the region Awadh (Oudh) in Central Uttar Pradesh. The next largest cities are Sultanpur 33 kilometers east and Raebareli 65 kilometers west. Amethi is the largest city in the Amethi district, but the administrative seat of the district is Gauriganj .

Amethi is considered the political bastion of the Nehru Gandhi dynasty . Both Sanjay Gandhi (1980), Rajiv Gandhi (1981, 1984 and 1989), Sonia Gandhi (1999) and Rahul Gandhi (2004 and 2009) were elected to the Lok Sabha from the constituency of Amethi .

Amethi is connected to the railway network via the railway line from Lucknow via Raebareli to Varanasi .
