Amphibolia is a plant kind from the family of aizoaceae (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek word amphibolia for 'doubt'.

description

The species of the genus Amphibolia grow as a low shrub up to 40 centimeters high and up to 70 centimeters in diameter. Sometimes the bushes get taller and not quite as wide. The internodes are white to yellowish or greyish, their leaves are club-shaped to triangular. Your epidermis is smooth, the stomata are hardly sunk. The fairly thin outer epidermal wall contains a thin layer of crystal sand .

There are one to three flowers per cyme , which are located on short, bract-bearing flower stalks . The filamentous staminodes are often dark purple at their tips and surround the stamens in a clear, interrupted cone. The scars are short. The nectarium forms a lophomorphic ring.

The five-branched, rarely six-branched, fruits are funnel-shaped at their base and remain on the plant. Your rectangular valve wings are very wide. They contain bald and almost rounded seeds .

Systematics and distribution

The distribution area of the amphibolia genus extends from Lüderitz in southern Namibia over the districts along the west coast of South Africa to Cape Town . The species grow in sand, gravel and rock in areas with winter precipitation amounts of less than 100 to 300 millimeters per year. In addition, fog from the sea contributes to precipitation.

The first description of the genus by Hans Herre was published in 1971. The amphibolia genus includes the following species:
