Heidrun Hartmann

Heidrun Elsbeth Klara Osterwald Hartmann , also Heidi EK Hartmann (born August 5, 1942 in Kolberg ; † July 11, 2016 in Hamburg ) was a German botanist . Your botanical author abbreviation is " HEKHartmann ". She was born as Heidrun Elsbeth Klara Osterwald.

Live and act

From 1970 to 2007 Hartmann taught at the University of Hamburg in the Department of Systematic Botany , and since her habilitation in 1982 she was a private lecturer in the group of professors. Since 1969, her research focus has been the Aizoaceae plant family from all continents. She dealt with almost all genres and published the research results in more than 130 books and articles. Since 2001, together with Sigrid Liede-Schumann ( Bayreuth ) , she has been investigating the morphology and molecular biology of Trianthema and, since 2007, of Drosanthemum and Delosperma . The two-volume handbook Aizoaceae , edited by her and largely written by herself , the 2nd completely revised edition of which she completed shortly before her death, is considered the standard work for this plant family.

Hartmann was a member of the Linnean Society , AETFAT, and the International Organization for Succulent Research .

Heidrun Hartmann was married to Wilfried Hartmann and has two grown daughters.

Honors

In 1996 the genus Hartmanthus was named after her by Steven A. Hammer . In 2012 a species of the genus Gibbaeum was named Gibbaeum hartmannianum , in 2018 a species of the genus Delosperma was named Delosperma heidihartmanniae . For 2013 she was awarded the Cactus d'Or of the International Organization for Succulent Research (IOS). In 2015, the Cactus and Succulent Society of America awarded her one of the two highest honors she bestows: the Fellow Award. Heidrun Hartmann received it for extraordinary research achievements, publications and lectures in the field of succulent plants.
