Amphimachus (son of Kteatus)
Amphimachus ( Greek Ἀμφίμαχος ) is a person of Greek mythology .
He is the son of Kteatos, who has grown together with his twin brother Eurytus, who are known as a semi-divine double being under the name of Aktorione . Amphimachus is therefore the grandson of Poseidon or the actor . His mother was Theronike .
Amphimachus was one of Helena's suitors . With ten ships he went to the side of the Greeks in the Trojan War , where he was one of the four military commanders of the Epaires alongside his cousin Thalpios , Diores and Polyxeinos . When Hector hurled his spear at Teukros during the fight , he was able to evade, but the projectile hit Amphimachus fatally in the chest. Hector's attempt to steal the dead man's helmet was thwarted by Teucros' brother, the great Aias . The corpse could be recovered by Stichios and Menestheus , the two leaders of the Athenians before Troy , and brought to the Greek camp. But Poseidon, angry about the death of his grandson, encouraged the Greeks to fight.
