Amphoe Khuan Don ( Thai : อำเภอ ควนโดน ) is a district ( amphoe - administrative district) in the province of Satun . The Satun Province is located in the southern region of Thailand on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula .

Adjacent counties and areas are (from south clockwise): The Amphoe Mueang Satun , Tha Phae and Khuan Kalong in the province of Satun, Amphoe Sadao of Songkhla province and Perlis , a state of Malaysia .

The district is on the border with Malaysia; crossing the border is possible from Wang Prachan (Satun, Thailand) to Wang Kelian (Perlis, Malaysia). Part of the Thale Ban National Park is also located here .

The main water resource is the Duson River ( Sungai Dusun in Bahasa Melayu , the river's original name). The Bueng Thale Ban ( บึง ทะเล บัน ) is a swampy lake area in the middle of a valley, which lies between the Chin and Wang-Pra ridges, and has an area of ​​about 320 km². Many types of freshwater fish and mussels are caught here. The Ton Plio waterfall is located in the Chin mountain ranges and has water all year round and can be reached from road 4184.

history

The old name of Khuan Don was Duson ( ดุ สน ), which comes from the Malay Dusun , the original name of this district.

Khuan Don was initially a small district ( King Amphoe ) , which was merged with Amphoe Mueang Satun . On February 1, 1977, the government separated the Tambon Khuan Don and Khuan Sato in order to re-establish the small district. On January 1, 1988, Khuan Don received full Amphoe status.

Local administration

Khuan Don ( เทศบาล ตำบล ควนโดน ) is a small town ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district, it consists of parts of the Tambon Khuan Don, Khuan Sato and Yan Sue.

There are also four "Tambon Administration Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) for the Tambon or the parts of Tambon in the county that do not belong to any town.
