Amphoe Sop Moei (in Thai อำเภอ สบ เมย ) is the southernmost district ( amphoe - administrative district) of Mae Hong Son Province . The Mae Hong Son Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .

geography

Neighboring districts (clockwise from south): Tha Song Yang District in Tak Province , the Kayin State of Myanmar , Mae Sariang District in Mae Hong Son Province, and Hot and Omkoi District in Chiang Mai Province .

Important rivers in the district are the Saluen (also: Salween , Thai: Maenam Salawin , แม่น้ำ สาละ วิน ), the Maenam Moei ( Moei River ), the Ngao ( Ngao River ) and the Maenam Yuam ( Yuam River ).

The National Park Mae Ngao is located in the district of Sop Moei.

history

Sop Moei was initially set up as a “branch circle” ( King Amphoe ) on April 1, 1984 , by separating the Tambon Sop Moei, Mae Khatuan and Kong Koi from the Amphoe Mae Sariang . On November 3, 1993, Sop Moei was promoted to Amphoe.
