history

prehistory

From 1063 onwards, the Seligenstadt monastery belonged to the Archbishops of Mainz , to whom King Heinrich IV had given it as an own monastery . The administration of the monastery property and its territorialization was therefore taken over by the Electorate of Mainz. This gave rise to his office with the name of Amtsvogtei Seligenstadt . In the Middle Ages and early modern times , offices were a level between the municipalities and the sovereign rulership . The functions of administration and jurisdiction were not separated here.

Kurmainz

In Kurmainzer times the Fautheiamt Seligenstadt was subordinated to the Vizedomamt Aschaffenburg . In the 16th century it consisted of Klein-Welzheim , Mainflingen , Zellhausen , Froschhausen and Klein-Krotzenburg . In 1772 the towns of Stockstadt , Dettingen , Kleinostheim and Mainaschaff were also assigned to the Seligenstadt Fautheiamt.

As part of the administrative reform of 1782, the Fautheiamt Seligenstadt was renamed the Amtsvogtei Seligenstadt and organizationally a sub-unit of the Oberamt Steinheim and the Vice Cathedral Office Rheingau was subordinated. Linked to this were again changes in the layout.

In the district bailiwick of Seligenstadt , the Mainz land law , which was formally reintroduced in the entire electoral state in 1755, was considered a particular law . The common law also applied, as far as the Mainz land law did not contain special regulations for a matter. It remained in effect throughout the 19th century when the area belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . Until 1 January 1900, the particular law of the same across the whole was German Reich current Civil Code replaced.

Hesse

In Reichsdeputationshauptschluss Kurmainz 1803 was dissolved and the upper office Steinheim with Amtsvogtei Seligenstadt of Hesse-Darmstadt slammed, which was renamed "Grand Duchy of Hesse" 1806th The name of the authority changed to "Amt Seligenstadt".

With the executive order of December 9, 1803, the judicial system of the two higher authorities was reorganized. The offices - also in the Seligenstadt office - remained the first instance of jurisdiction in civil matters . In 1821/22 there was an administrative reform in the Grand Duchy. With it, court and administration were also separated at the lower level. District districts were created for the administrative tasks previously performed in the offices, and district courts for the first instance jurisdiction. The Seligenstadt office was dissolved. Its administrative tasks were transferred to the district of Seligenstadt , the jurisdiction to the district court Steinheim .
