Klein-Welzheim (in the Hessian Klaa Welzem ) is a district of the city Seligenstadt am Main in the southern Hessian district Offenbach .

history

Welzheim (in the Middle Ages no distinction was made between Kleinwelzheim and Großwelzheim ) was first mentioned in a document in 772 in a deed of donation from Lorsch Abbey. The place was then called "Walinesheim" (after the Franconian Maingaugrafen Walah ). Another donation dates from the year 786. During the reign of Charlemagne , numerous other donations were made. Later the monastery in Seligenstadt came to extensive property in Klein-Welzheim. In the Middle Ages, the place belonged to the Electorate of Mainz .

In 1705 the moated castle was built as the summer residence of the abbots of the Seligenstadt monastery. In 1791 serfdom was revoked against payment of 175 guilders to the elector .

1803 Klein-Welzheim came with the Amtsvogtei Seligenstadt of Kurmainz of Hesse-Darmstadt . The post-war development was particularly associated with the long-time mayor of the Klein-Welzheim community, Jakob Hetzer ( CDU ).

By opening up further building areas , the district reached approx. 3000 inhabitants in 2005.

The municipality of Klein-Welzheim entered into a partnership with the Dutch municipality of Wessem in 1972 . This partnership was initially continued after regional reforms on the German and Dutch sides (city of Seligenstadt and municipality of Heel ), but officially ended in 2008 at the request of the municipality of Maasgouw , to which Heel was transferred in 2007. The “Wessemer Straße” in Klein-Welzheim is a reminder of this.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Klein-Welzheim was incorporated into Seligenstadt by state law on January 1, 1977 after unsuccessful resistance, together with Froschhausen .

The coat of arms of the municipality of Klein-Welzheim was approved by the Hessian Minister of the Interior on April 15, 1953 . It was designed by the heraldist Georg Massoth.

This coat of arms combines the talking symbol of the catfish with the symbol of the historical past of the place, the Mainz wheel, since the place originally belonging to the Lorsch monastery fell to Kurmainz in 1232 and became an archbishopric until the transition to Hessen-Darmstadt in 1803

flag

The flag was approved for the city on January 16, 1954 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and is described as follows:

"The coat of arms of the community of Klein-Welzheim is on the white central panel of the red-white-red flag cloth."
