The uninhabited Greek archipelago of Ananes ( Greek Ανάνες ( m. Pl. )) Consists of one larger and two smaller rock islands and some rocks in the southwestern Aegean. Administratively include Ananes to the municipality of Cyclades -Insel Milos in the region South Aegean (Περιφέρεια Νότιου Αιγαίου).

location

The rock islands with a total area of 0.1 km² are located about 23 km southwest of Milos, at the transition from the Myrtoic Sea to the Cretan Sea . Other nearby islands are Andimilos 31 km north and Falkonera 42 km northwest.

geology

Like Methana , Milos , Santorin and Nisyros , the Ananes are located on the Aegean arch and are included in the Milos archipelago, which was formed about 3.5 to 1.6 million years ago. The ananes are probably older, however. Extensive hydrothermal changes in the emerging volcanic rock reveal no temporal or stratigraphic relationship with the Milos archipelago.

nature

Strong winds occurring all year round in combination with rough seas influence the landscape of the volcanic islands. Due to their remote location and surrounded by the deep sea, the islands are an important resting place for migratory birds as well as breeding grounds for sea birds and represent an important terrestrial ecosystem. The flora is characterized by the presence of so-called "small island specialists".

flora

The vegetation of the coastal region is determined by obligatory halophytes . Anthemis scopulorum , a typical "small island-specialist" in the Aegean, is partially adapted to the salt location of the coast region, but in coexistence with also occurs in the areas away from the coast areas Phrygana -Vertretern as mandrel burnet ( Sarcopoterium spinosum ), the head thyme ( Coridothymus capitatus ) and knapweed ( Centaurea raphanina ssp. mixta ) on.

fauna

A population of Aegean bare fingers ( Cyrtodactylus kotschyi ) exists on the islands , as well as the subspecies Podarcis milensis adolfjordansi of the Milos wall lizards on the largest eastern island , whose population is classified as endangered by the IUCN .

natural reserve

Together with other uninhabited islets form the Ananes in the southern Aegean the Natura 2000.
