Anatoly Gerasimov

Anatoli Gerasimow , Russian Анатолий Герасимов , (* 1945 in Moscow ; † April 25, 2013 ) was a Russian jazz musician ( saxophone , flute ), composer and arranger .

Life

Anatoli Gerasimow began his career in various Moscow jazz bands, such as the big bands of Anatoli Kroll , Jurij Saulsky, Boris Pischkow and Eddie Rosner . In 1973 he emigrated to the United States, where he worked with musicians such as Tony Scott and became a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra under the direction of Mercer Ellington ( Continuum , 1975). In the following years he wrote music for theater and film, including for Liquid Sky (1983), a science fiction filmby the Russian-born director Slava Tsukerman. He moved to Paris in the early 1980s before returning to Russia in 1997. There he worked with his own bands and with Vladimir Ivanov, with whom the last recordings were made in 2009 ( Ornithology Pilgrimage ). In the field of jazz he was involved in nine recording sessions between 1975 and 2009.
