Leo Traversa

Leonard D. Traversa (* 1959 in New York City ) is an American jazz bassist.

Traversa studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He teaches at the Drummers Collective in New York City and also at the Bass Collective , which he founded with John Patitucci and Victor Bailey in 1987.

He often works with representatives of world music from Brazil, the Caribbean and Africa and performs regularly with orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Americas , Samba Samba 2000 and ¡KÚBA! and played recordings with Tânia Maria , Eliane Elias , Ben E. King , Astrud Gilberto , Michael Brecker , Don Byron , César Camargo Mariano , Dave Valentin , Toninho Horta , Gerry Mulligan , the New York Voices , Oscar Hernandez , Phil Woods , the Caribbean Jazz Project , Steve Kimock , Leslie Uggams , Gato Barbieri , Ivan Lins , Chris Washburn's band Syotos and others.

He has appeared on numerous television shows including the Today Show , New York Prime , Jazz Brasil and the Good Day Show , and has appeared in two films and the Broadway productions Oh, Calcutta! and behive with.
