Ancient Dome is an Italian thrash metal band from Saronno that was formed in 2000.

history

The band was founded in 2000 by the guitarist Paolo “Paul” Porro, the bassist Matteo “Cuzzo” Cuzzolin and the guitarist Gabriele “Pech” Borghi. The line-up was completed in the same year by the addition of the drummer Salvatore "Syra" Siragusano. In 2004 Borghi left the band and was replaced by Alessandro "Ale" Fontana. Then the first demo called Once Were Thrashers was recorded. In 2005 a self-titled EP followed. In the following two years the band held concerts on a constant basis. In June 2007 Siragusano got out, whereupon Girgio "Joe" Alberti came on as the new drummer. In November, the recordings began for the debut album Human Key , which was released in January 2009 on the Italian label Punishment 18 Records . The publication was followed by concerts, with Ancient Dome playing for Artillery , Whiplash , Holy Moses and Heathen , among others . In September 2010, the same label followed by the second album under the name Perception of This World . In February 2011, the line-up shrank to four members, as a result of which Gerardo "Jerry" De Feo took over the vocals. In October Cuzzolin left the band, so that in January 2012 Davide "White" Bianchi joined him. In June, the compilation Hunting the MILF was released on the Italian label DeathStorm Records . The sound carrier consists of two new songs, newly recorded title songs from the two previously released albums (in which Cuzzolin still plays the bass) as well as the 2004 demo and the EP from 2005. After further appearances, among others together with Master , was released in May 2013 A split release with Metalheadz called Blast from the Future via DeathStorm Records . These two new songs were the first official recordings with the new line-up. In July 2013 the band went back to the studio to record the album Cosmic Gateway to Infinity . The recording ended in January 2014, after which the album was released in October on Punishment 18 Records. In the meantime, the band had performed at various smaller festivals in northern Italy and held concerts with bands like E-Force . Bianchi left Ancient Dome in December and was replaced five months later by Girgio "Giò" Mina. Then the EP OWT… and Still We Are was recorded and published in October 2015 via DeathStorm Records to celebrate the ten-year existence of the demo Once Were Thrashers . At the end of the year Fontana also left the band, who was then replaced by Marco Colombo.

style

According to the band's biography, the group initially played heavy metal before being moved by the thrash metal of the San Francisco Bay Area to the sound of bands like Metallica , Megadeth , Heathen, Testament , Coroner , Artillery, Forbidden , Slayer , Exodus and empathize with overkill . Reini from stormbringer.at wrote in his review of Human Key that you can hear classic Thrash Metal on it, which is based on older works by bands like Heathen or Forbidden. The music is solid, but does not offer any highlights. In the songs the group paired aggressiveness with melodies, whereby they would occasionally drift into Power Metal . Florian from metal.de also drew a comparison to classic Thrash Metal in his review of Perception of This World . He heard influences from Kreator and Slayer. The band attaches particular importance to variety, which is reflected in the variable vocals and the electric guitars, which are sometimes melodic, sometimes aggressive. Parallels to Iced Earth and Death can also be heard.
