Högberg, who competed for IFK Umeå and Skogn IL , ran his first of a total of 52 individual World Cup races in Kiruna in November 1996 , finishing 99th in the 10 km freestyle. He got his first World Cup points in December 2000 in Brusson with 16th place in the sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti , he achieved fifth place in the sprint. In 2001 he was the Swedish champion with the relay of IFK Umeå. In the 2002/03 season he came in the points seven times in the World Cup. He achieved seventh place in the sprint in Cogne and Linz and achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup in Clusone with third place in the sprint. At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he achieved tenth place in the sprint. He finished the season in 36th place in the overall World Cup and 11th in the Sprint World Cup. After fourth place in the team sprint in Toblach at the beginning of the 2003/04 season, he finished third in the relay in Davos . This was followed by third places in the sprint in Trondheim and Drammen and with the relay in Umeå . At the end of the season he came in 30th place in the overall World Cup and tenth place in the Sprint World Cup. He ran his last World Cup race in November 2006 in Gällivare , which he finished in 88th place over 15 km freestyle and 18th place with the relay. Högberg also took part in FIS races from 1997 to 2014 and achieved 16 victories. He also won the Vasaloppet China in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014 . In early January 2011 he finished second in this run.
