Andimachia ( Greek Πυλί ( n. Sg. )) Is a municipality on the Greek island and municipality of Kos in the South Aegean region with 2538 inhabitants (2011). The 54,000 km² district of Andimachia ( Δημοτική Κοινότητα Αντιμαχείας Dimotikí Kinótita Andimachías ) consists of the small town of Andimachia and the port of Mastichari .

The municipality of Andimachia extends over 54,000 km² in the northwest of Kos. Neighboring districts are Pyli in the east, Kardamena in the southeast and south, and Kefalos in the west.

Administrative structure and population development

Under the name Antímachia , the statistical data recorded during the Italian period for the former municipality 1836 inhabitants in 1921, 1998 inhabitants for 1931 and 2173 inhabitants for 1936.

After the annexation of the Dodecanese to Greece in 1948, the rural community Andimachia ( Κοινότητα Αντιμαχείας Kinótita Andimachías ) with the administrative seat Andimachia and the coastal town Mastichari was founded. With the territorial reform in 1997 , the merger with the rural communities of Kardamena and Kefalos to form what was then the community of Iraklidis . With the implementation of the administrative reform in 2010, this in turn became a municipality in the municipality of Kos , where Andimachia has since formed one of six municipalities.
