Ando Hakob (born March 6, 1989 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR as Andranik Hakobyan ) is a Swiss professional boxer from Baden AG .

Life

Ando Hakob was born as the son of the Armenian electrical engineer Hrachik Hakobyan († 2015) and Silva Shachbazian in the Armenian capital Yerevan. Hakob grew up in poor conditions. He spent the first seven years in Yerevan and on his grandparents' farm in the Aparan region . In 1996 he and his family fled to Germany through Belarus and Poland . After three years, the asylum application was rejected. His family left Germany and traveled on to France and Spain. In August 1999 the family successfully applied for asylum in Switzerland. In 2011 Ando Hakob completed an apprenticeship as a commercial clerk .

Beginnings and amateur career

Ando Hakob started boxing when he was 18. A year later, on November 20, 2008, he won his first amateur boxing match . In the years up to 2010, another 18 amateur fights followed. In 2010 he won the Swiss light welterweight championship by defeating Riccardo Silva Ramos, who was much more experienced with 85 fights, with 16:12 points. In 2011 Hakob played his first international tournament in Paris and came second after victories against Italy and Germany. In 2012 Hakob moved to the Singen Boxing Club, where he remained undefeated for more than a year and won fights at other international tournaments. His record is 62 wins in 67 amateur fights (62-5-0). After a shoulder operation, Ando Hakob switched to professional boxing in 2014.

Professional career

Ando Hakob played his first professional boxing match in Frankfurt. He won it in the first round after a knockout . He won his second professional fight in Hanover in the second round, also by knockout. Ando Hakob can now look back on ten professional fights, all of which he has won. His co-balance is 50%. This battle balance is unique in Switzerland. Ando Hakob ranks 278th in the welterweight world ranking of the independent platform BoxRec. He has been the reigning Swiss super-lightweight champion since his win against Cedric Kassongo in November 2017.

Ando Hakob often provokes his opponents on social media platforms and in the ring. The American sports broadcaster 120 Sports called him the fastest boxer in the world. From 2009 to 2011 Hakob was a member of the Swiss Boxing Team. On February 17, 2018, Ando Hakob was supposed to play an international professional match against Innocent Anyanwu from the Netherlands. Since Anyanwu's HIV test was not up to date, the fight did not take place. Instead, a show fight was held against the French boxer Mevludin Sulejmani from Strasbourg , which Ando Hakob won.
