André Gonçalves Dias (born May 15, 1979 in São Bernardo do Campo ) is a former Brazilian soccer player . Dias played in the central defender position .

Career

André Dias started professional football in 1999 in the Liga Copa São Paulo de Juniores , where he played for Palestra de São Bernardo . In the same year he signed a contract with Paraná Clube , where he played for a year before moving to the first division club Flamengo . Dias was only under contract with Flamengo for a short time until he moved to the next club, this time to Paysandu SC . Another year passed before he went to Goiás EC , where he established himself as a strong and talented defender .

After spending two seasons with Goias, he was bought by São Paulo FC . He remained there until 2009, where he in the Italian Serie A moved.

Dias secured his way to Europe on February 1, 2010, where he signed with the Italian club Lazio Rome for a € 2.63 million transfer fee. He scored two goals in the first ten league games.

In the 2012/13 season, Dias was made responsible as co-responsible for Lazios jump to the top positions in the table. Under Lazios new coach Vladimir Petković , Dias was formed with Giuseppe Biava and Michaël Ciani as the backbone of the squad to create a strong defense that was one of the best in Serie A.

In 2009, Dias was appointed to the national team by manager Dunga , where he met the Chilean national team in the 2010 World Cup . However, it was not set up.
