André Filippini

André Filippini (born on September 13, 1924 in Sion ; died on November 18, 2013 there ) was a Swiss building contractor , bobsleigh athlete and football official .

In his youth, the son of Italian immigrants was a successful athlete. The highlight of his career was winning the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, together with Fritz Feierabend , Albert Madörin and Stephan Waser .

From 1971 Filippini was president of the soccer club FC Sion , during his term of office he won the Swiss Cup 1973/74 . Although Filippini managed to generate 1.4 million francs in income, when he resigned in the summer of 1977, the club had a debt of 200,000 francs.

Savro SA

Filippini was the owner of the construction company Savro SA with around 700 employees and several subsidiaries abroad. In 1977 the company and its owner hit the international headlines as part of a corruption scandal after it was revealed that they had defrauded the state of 3.5 million francs over several years, together with representatives of regional authorities and the Christian Democratic People's Party, which is politically dominant in the canton of Valais had. Filippini was subsequently sentenced to eight years' imprisonment and the payment of a five-figure fine, as was the head of the road maintenance office and the head of the canton's traffic police. The law enforcement authorities had accused the trio of bribery , corruption , fraud , embezzlement and forgery of documents . In his autobiography, published in 2005, Filippini justified his approach by saying that he wanted to keep the 700 jobs.
