André Roder (born May 31, 1900 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; died May 9, 1959 in Vienna) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

In 1918 Roder was a student of the painter Berthold Dominik Lippay and the sculptor Paul Paintl . From 1925 to 1930 he studied at the master school for sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Hans Bitterlich . Roder also attended the Vienna Music Academy . In 1928 he received an honorary award from the City of Vienna for the “Mother's Monument” at Baumgartner Friedhof . In 1929 he had his first exhibition and in 1930 he received the master school award. Roder created an angel for the crypt of the former Dr. Karl Lueger Memorial Church . During the Nazi era , he had a special show in the Maximilian Museum in Augsburg in 1943 . In 1945, his state studio and the drafts in it were destroyed by the effects of the war.

In 1950, Roder was commissioned to reconstruct the Bellona fountain, which had been destroyed in the war, in its old form by Lorenzo Mattielli . Roder was a member of the “Cooperative of Fine Artists” and the “German Art Association”.

He was buried at the Baumgartner Friedhof .

The photographer Rudolf Koppitz portrayed Roder at work in 1926.
