Andrea Giorgio Maria Bianchi (born July 16, 1746 in Brienno , † October 9, 1814 in Rudolstadt ) was an Italian businessman . He was best known for financing the Princely House of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and for promoting art and music, including his son-in-law, the composer Traugott Maximilian Eberwein .

Life

Andrea Giorgio Maria Bianchi was born as the son of the merchant Nazzaro Giorgio Bianchi (* 1708 in Brienno on Lake Como ; † between April 9 and October 20, 1793 there) and his wife Marta Maria Domenica Caminata (* May 15, 1720 Brienno; † July 21, 1756 ibid) born on July 16, 1746 in Brienno on Lake Como. His parents and grandparents had been active on the trade routes via Chur and Würzburg in Dresden, Leipzig, Zeitz, Gera and Neustadt an der Orla since 1680, before they were granted a concession for a goods store in Rudolstadt in 1741 by Prince Friedrich Anton von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt . His childhood was shaped by apprenticeships in trade and in the office.

On February 24, 1772 he married in Cermenate Francesca Tizzeri (* 1753 in Carate / Carate Urio; † December 22, 1787 in Rudolstadt), with whom he had nine children. In Germany he was called Andreas Georg Maria Bianchi.

In 1779 he took over as the sole heir the goods store his father had founded in Rudolstadt, which he ran with great success. In 1787 he and a partner bought the Hockerodaer Hammer. The financially strong entrepreneur gained political influence on Prince Ludwig Friedrich II. Von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (r. 1793–1807), with whom he maintained a lively correspondence (State Archives Rudolstadt). Bianchi advised the prince on financial matters, lent him money and made suggestions for the design of the Rudolstadt townscape. In 1806 the enterprising Italian bought a playing card factory founded in Rudolstadt in 1799 and at that time ran restaurants on the Rudolstädter Anger.

In 1803 Bianchi traveled with his son-in-law, the composer Traugott Maximilian Eberwein and his sons, brother Rudolf Anton Nazar Georg (* 1779) and Carl Wilhelm Ludwig (* 1783 in Rudolstadt / painter), to Brienno and other northern Italian cities.

He was a member of the Freemasons as Andreas Georg Maria Bianchi - religious name "Barnabo Visconti", 1776 member of the Weimar lodge "Amalia" in the apprenticeship degree, later a Freemason in the master degree in the system of strict observance, (1800) master of ceremonies of the Rudolstadt lodge "Günther to the standing lion “, 1784 Illuminatus minor, quaestor and treasurer of the MK von Rudolstadt. His extensive will from 1806 was canceled by him on January 20, 1811 and replaced by a definitive will of November 10, 1813.

Services

Bianchi significantly expanded his family's merchandise store, which was founded around 1680. Due to the economic success, he was able to exert a significant influence on the urban development of Rudolstadt through the ruling dynasty. His company existed through his descendants until 1873, when his great-grandson sold the company to Günther Windorf.
