Andrea Morgenthaler

Andrea Morgenthaler (born August 20, 1957 in Achern ) is a German director and screenwriter.

Life

Andrea Morgenthaler grew up abroad in a liberal, cosmopolitan family. She attended schools in São Paulo and Vienna . In 1976 she graduated from high school in Hanover. She then studied psychology, philosophy and education at the University of Vienna until 1980 , where she received her doctorate in psychology in 1982. Then she completed an internship at Südwestfunk Baden-Baden. From 1985 to 1988 she worked as a freelancer at SWF, where she made contributions to the state and cultural program. She has been working as a freelance writer and director since 1990.

Morgenthaler has directed numerous TV productions for SWF, ARD and Bayerischer Rundfunk . With her documentary Roger Bornemann - Death of a Skinhead she won the German Film Critics' Prize in 1989 and the Adolf Grimme Prize with bronze in 1991 with Die Reise der Kinder von La Guette .

On behalf of SWR and WDR , she shot a three-part documentary about Joseph Goebbels , which ran on Das Erste in October 2004 . The following year she was awarded the Bavarian Television Prize for this work . The jury justified this decision by saying that Andrea Morgenthaler had analyzed the background "precisely and with great tension" and had produced a "great journalistic and cinematic achievement".

In 2010 she wrote the script and directed the feature film Rest in Peace .
