Life

Epitaph for Andrea Salvadori

Andrea's father, Francesco di Marco Salvadori, belonged to a family of landowners who participated in the grand-ducal administration of the city in Marciano . He died just a few months after the birth of his son in March 1589 and in 1592 Andrea and his sister were entrusted to their uncle Salvatore Salvadori, who lived in Florence, through the magistrato dei pupilli . A copy of the baptismal certificate is preserved in the files created in this way, which corrects the year of birth 1591, which was reconstructed from the information in the epitaph that the three sons of Salvadori had set.

From 1608 he was a member of the Accademia della Crusca , in which in 1609 he also held the office of censore . He was also a member of the Accademia Fiorentina .

He was buried in the Chiesa dei Santi Simone e Giuda in Florence.

The general encyclopedia of fine artists from antiquity to the present wrongly made him an "engraver and draftsman of ornaments" through the misunderstanding of a correct entry in the Berlin ornament engraving catalog.

  1. The eldest was three years old when his father died, the youngest not even a year. Therefore, the tablet can also have been created years after death, especially since 1635 is not the year of death.
